The best time to come hiking in the Simien Mountains is from October to December as the highlands will be covered by green and flowering plants. Snow occasionally appears in the Simien Mountains above 3,800m but doesn't remain long even on Ras-Dashen mountain top, Ethiopia’s  highest peak (4620m). The main reasons for this are because Ethiopia is located near the Equator and thus there is a not a great variation in the length of the day and the night. Generally speaking there is no latitude factor all year round.   At this latitude the snow line, like the tree line, is located at 5,000m above sea level.
